The skin has its natural oils, which keep it moisturised, and prevents dryness and scaling. Dryness can sometimes occur due to excessive use of soaps, harsh chemicals and exposure to the elements outside. Hence, it’s important to hydrate your skin and body regularly. Dr Shuba Dharmana, a dermatologist tells you how.
Choose the right moisturiser
Opt for something that is light and suits your skin type. You can also use face lotions and serums to hydrate your skin and body.
Drink at least eight glasses of water daily Make it a point to drink at least eight glasses of water per day (two to three litres). You can also infuse your water with herbs and fruits.
Avoid carbonated drinks
Avoid bottled water, bottled drinks and carbonated aerated drinks and canned fruit juices. Some of these contain lots of sugar and preservatives, which is harmful for your body.
Protect your skin
Use sun protection. Staying outdoors in the heat dehydrates the body quickly. When working out, you sweat, which can also cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance especially for long distance runners. Keep hydrating yourself with water.
Pamper your skin
Externally moisturise your body and face with a lotion or cream or with a hyaluronic or vitamin C based serum.
