There are many reasons why you might not really find the idea of sleeping in the same bed with your partner feel romantic. Snoring, reading with the light on, tossing and turning, etc. might be a few reasons that come to your mind. Does this mean couples should consider "sleep divorce"?
01/ What is sleep divorce?
Now, it sounds sligthly dramatic but it is actually quite normal. Simply put, sleep divorce is when the couple starts sleeping separately. Doing this can solve their issue of getting annoyed at each other's bedtime habits. So, if sleeping in the same bed is causing problems between you two, you can very much consider taking this course. Also statistically, over 30% of people say that they would rather take a sleep divorce in their own homes instead of indulging in arguments every morning.
02/ Why should you consider sleep divorce?
One major reason - better sleep, of course! If not every night, one can sleep apart from time to time if their partner's sleep disturbs them. Again, it can also be done due to restlessness, different work schedules, etc. The reasons can be endless. Sleep is really important for a healthy lifestyle. And if you're compromising on it because of your partner's sleeping habits, you must consider sleep divorce for your own sake.
03/ Would sleep divorce affect your relationship in a bad way?
Sleeping apart is a personal choice. Two people who absolutely love and respect each other will understand this choice that their partner is making. Besides, taking a sleep divorce doesn't mean you can't spend some intimate time every night on the same bed. It is literally only for the time when both of you would want to get some good hours of sleep without any disturbance.
04/ How to do it?
As a couple, you both can talk about this and how serious of an issue it's becoming to not get enough sleep. This will help you both mutually decide on making the decision for your personal well being as well as the well being of your relationship. If you don't have a separate bed space in the same room or a separate bedroom, you both can take turns and sleep on a temporary bed setting in the living area. This kind of understanding will make it much easier for both of you to get adequate sleep without disturbing each other. Ultimately, you both have to decide what works best for you.
