One of the most heard statements amongst employees is "I have too much work". People who are way too invested in their work start stressing about their work a little too much. And ever since we've all been in the lockdown phase, work has taken a toll on a lot of us. This means, many people aren't able to maintain a work-life balance and it gets a lot for them to handle their daily tasks too. Moreover, the fear of job security also makes it difficult for them to say no to work. So when you start to feel overwhelmed and notice an imbalance in your work-life balance, these are the things you must start practicing:
01/ Take breaks
Working for continuous hours isn't healthy for your well-being and your productivity as well. You must take regular breaks and get your mind as well as eyes off work, stretch, eat a snack, watch a quick fun video or even play with your dog. These tiny breaks will help you keep active through your working hours without feeling too much at once.
02/ Set deadlines
Every Monday, make a schedule of all the things you either have to finish through the day or the week. Setting deadlines will help you keep your focus on the thing you have to get done within that timeframe. Without a task-list and deadline aligned to each one of those, you tend to procrastinate sometimes and waste all that time only to realize later that everything got piled up in the end.
03/ Credit yourself
Everybody makes mistakes, even the most successful people have made mistakes and continue making them. Perfection is impossible but crediting yourself isn't. This also means you can give yourself some grace if you slept in one morning and missed a deadline, you needn't start to doubt yourself but learn from it and make sure your end goal isn't affected. Also, give yourself some credit for all the work you've done through the week or the month. You deserve appreciation from yourself first.
04/ Make time for essentials
Nothing is more important than your health, family and friends. And as much as you'd want to prove yourself and others with your work, it is equally your duty to make time for other relationships in your life. Make a quick phone call to your friend, have a meal with your parents and discuss the day. Make time for yourself once in the entire day to just relax, watch your favourite series or simply do nothing.
05/ Cut down on non-essentials
A lot of people work from their couches or kitchen tables. Some of them will continue to work remotely even after the pandemic ends. But when your home is your office now, the distractions can be many. Your TV, phone and many other things seem tempting to keep you occupied during work hours. Cut down on these distractions as they will take up major of your work time and leave you with very little time to finish all your day's work.
06/ Remember what got you here
Every time you take more work on you than you can handle, it will stress you out. You will even forget how you got to this point when you are stressed out. Your talent and hustle are what got you where you are. It doesn't mean you have to constantly keep doing more to get somewhere bigger.
