As the countries across the world continue to put a united front to battle the highly infectious contagion, there has been a massive shift in the work culture and the operation of the educational institutions globally. Classrooms have turned virtual as students and teachers have moved online in a bid to continue the education. However, the abrupt shift to screen-based learning for children is not exactly good news for parents, who have been long trying to fight the battle of excess screen times for young children.
Three ways you can take care of your kids’ eyesight,
As all forms of communication have majorly shifted online, managing your child’s screen time and protecting his/her vision can be a daunting task. We are listing down three ways you can take care of your kids’ eyesight, even in the era where screens continue to remain a non-negotiable part of our daily lives.
01/ Mind your posture
For starters, make sure that your child does not hold the phone very close to his eyes as it may lead to unwanted strain and cause fatigue of eye muscles. When using a laptop or a desktop, ensure that the monitor is at the eye level and make use of books to prop it up.
02/ Keep the distance
In order to reduce the eye strain and fatigue, make sure your kids watch Television from a distance and even digital devices like smartphones and tablets should be kept at a minimum distance of 18 to 24 inches from the eyes. The brightness of the device should also be adjusted keeping the comfort of their eyes in mind.
03/ Blink regularly
It is not only important to take regular breaks as per the 20/20/20 method (take a break from the digital device for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes and look at something 20 feet away), it is also important that your kids blink regularly. Teach them to slowly open and close their eyes at least 10 times every 30 minutes to prevent itchy, dry eyes. Also, remind your kids to blink regularly whenever they are engrossed in any gadget.
