Your skin tone is considered as the most important thing to keep in mind while discovering your perfect make-up match. But, it's also the undertones that play a crucial role. What exactly are undertones? To simply put it, the undertone is the colour that is visible from underneath the surface of your skin that determines the overall hues. Skin undertones mainly fall under war, cool and neutral colours. Once you know your skin undertone, picking the right make-up product will get easier for you. Here's how you can decide which skin undertone you have.
Warm undertones
This skin undertone means that the underlying colours in your skin are mainly peach and gold. You should opt for foundations that have a beige-gold colour as it works the best for warm undertones. For eye make-up, you can look for warm colours for eyeshadow palettes like deep blues, bronze, emerald green, deep purples and golds. For lips, highlight and bronzer you can choose colours that give warmth and peachiness.
Cool undertones
This skin undertone is characterized by hints of pinks, blues and red undertones. Foundations with a little pink in them works the best for cool undertones. Colours that have more blue, rosy pinks, greens, purples and blue-based reds also work great.
Neutral undertones
This one is a mixture of both warm and cool skin undertones. This is also the easiest undertone to work with. Foundations that have a hint of peach that's not too warm, not too yellow works well. Choose make-up products based on hints of both warm and cool colours but do a swatch test on your skin to see which colour suits you the most.
How to know your skin undertone:
Colour of your veins - This is the easiest way to determine your skin undertone. Closely inspect the insides of your wrists. If they appear green, you have a warm undertone. If they appear blue, your skin undertone is cool. And if you can see a mix of both blue and green veins, you have a neutral undertone.
Colour of your eyes - Another way to determine your skin undertone is by paying attention to your eye colour. Blue, green, grey and deep brown eyes have characteristics of a cool undertone. Green, amber or hazel eyes with golden flecks have a warm skin undertone.
