Why Should You Drink Buttermilk in Summer?

While cold sodas only give momentary respite as we drink the cool liquid, buttermilk cools the body from within. The cooling properties of chaas can effectively bring down the temperature of the body. It even helps menopausal women combat hot flushes.

Relieves Constipation

Drinking buttermilk on an empty stomach every morning will help you relieve constipation. It protects your stomach from diseases and also gets rid of bloating.

Gut Health

Curd has great probiotic properties and since buttermilk is a curd-based drink, it helps to increase the production of good bacterias in the digestive tract. Science connects a healthy digestive system to good immunity and overall wellbeing of a person.

Aids Weight Loss

People usually refrain from consuming dairy if they are aiming for weight loss. Buttermilk, however, contains all the nutrients milk has without the fat. One glass of buttermilk will leave you satiated for a long time. This makes chaas a great drink if your goal is to reduce your calorie intake.

Happy Skin

The alpha hydraulic acid (AHA) and lactic acid present in the buttermilk enables your skin to recuperate from the damages caused during summers. The heat can make the skin dull and oily, but nothing a glass of chilled buttermilk can’t fix!

How to Make Buttermilk?

Buttermilk was traditionally what was left behind after churning butter from milk. Nowadays, buttermilk is made by thinning out the curd and adding spices to it.

Ingredients:

Yoghurt- ½ cup

Salt- 1 pinch

Cold Water- ½ cup

Black salt, Cumin & Asafoetida- 1 pinch each

Coriander leaves- ½ tbsp

Directions:

Blend all of them until they reach a smooth consistency

Add more water if the mixture isn’t desirably thinned

Top with salt and garnishing. Enjoy!
