At litfest, a peek into Shah Jahan’s city |
Shahjahanabad, which we call Old Delhi now, used to have a legacy of spiritual and temporal power. The walled city has seen both grandeur and tragedy — it is home to different parallels, said author and historian Swapna Liddle during a discussion with theatre director Feisal Alkazi and writer Rana Safvi at a session titled ‘Shahjahanabad: The Imperial City of Shah Jahan’ at the Times Litfest Delhi on Sunday.
“While its architecture, monuments and food is nothing less than majestic, the city’s narrow lanes and houses with huge courtyards also paint the picture of a close-knit community,” said Liddle, adding that the people who inhabited the old city have left but the pathos remains.
