Unable to conceive after multiple tries can be disheartening and take a toll on your emotional and physical health. But several new studies have found that women who get acupuncture to treat conditions that can interfere with getting pregnant (PCOS) or to increase the chances of successful IVF, have higher rate of pregnancy and birth.
Some doctors recommend getting acupuncture done to reduce the overall stress levels as stress hormones can lower the fertility hormone (progesterone).

How does it work?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese therapy where thin stainless steel needles are placed at certain spots of your body. These needles stimulate your body’s channels of energy. These needles can make one feel sleepy, calmer or even more energized, depending on where they are being put. One might also feel a drop or rise in hormones or increased blood flow in the pelvis area. Acupuncture shifts the body into the healing mode, which calms the nervous system. The best part is there is no side effect, apart from little bruising.
Acupuncture can begin at any time of your fertility treatment.
Sometimes trying acupuncture before even trying IVF or other methods to get pregnant may not require you to try other methods at all.

Remember
Before you plan to get acupuncture, you must consult your physician and gynaecologist. Because several conditions like blocked fallopian tube cannot be helped by getting acupuncture done. Do not take any Chinese herbs until your doctor approves of it. Some of these can actually hurt your fertility and even endanger and existing pregnancy.

Go to an acupuncturist who treats infertility, as not every acupuncturist is an expert in this area.
